RAMQ generally does not cover physiotherapy in private practice; reimbursement comes from your group insurance plan, if you have coverage, once you submit the receipt.

Frequently asked questions

Is the price the same for the initial assessment and follow-up sessions?

Yes, the $150 rate applies to both the initial assessment (60–90 minutes) and follow-up sessions (60 minutes).

Can I pay right after each session?

Yes, payment is made at the end of each session: cash, e-transfer, or personal cheque.

Does the price include the physiotherapist's travel?

Yes, no extra travel fee is charged for towns within our service area.

Does my insurance cover a home visit the same as a clinic visit?

In most Quebec group plans, reimbursement is tied to the professional and the service, not to where it is delivered. It is not automatic, though, and I cannot guarantee it on your behalf, because every contract differs. Call your insurer before the first visit and ask three questions: is physiotherapy received at home reimbursed at the same rate as in a clinic; is there a per-visit maximum or only an annual one; does my contract still require a prescription. Write down who you spoke to and the date.

Do I need a doctor's prescription?

Not to be assessed and treated: in Quebec you can see a physiotherapist through direct access, with no medical prescription. The nuance is reimbursement — some private insurers long required one even though the law never did. Check your contract. If you are coming out of surgery, bring your surgeon's protocol to the first visit anyway: their restrictions determine what I can do.

Does RAMQ cover your sessions?

No. RAMQ does not cover physiotherapy in private practice, and that includes home visits. This is true for me as it is for every private clinic in Châteauguay. State-funded physiotherapy exists, but it runs through the public system, with its own admission criteria and its own wait times. Compare the CLSC and private care in Châteauguay.

Is there tax on the $150?

No. Physiotherapy services provided by a physiotherapist are exempt from GST and QST. $150 is $150, with no surprise at the end of the session.
